In-House Litigation Counsel
Although the courtroom is our natural arena, we also regularly advise clients on how to avoid missteps leading to litigation (i.e. a courtroom trial), and offer considerable expertise with the process of arbitration and mediation as alternative and cost-saving means for resolving disputes.
Rain Minns’ goal with In-House Litigation Counsel clients is to prevent good small and family businesses from actually needing her firm’s primary work—representation in trials. This philosophy is akin to the saying that a good offense is a good defense. For some clients, it is about being able to make an occasional call to get advice about how to avoid giving someone grounds to sue their family business or how to discreetly deal with a potential white-collar crime issue. For other clients, this is about being able to make it clear, before any lawsuits are filed, that they are prepared to go all the way to trial to defend their rights. After all, they hired a trial firm rather than a pre-trial or corporate law firm.
At our firm, this type of work is intentionally kept at a minimum and these clients are screened particularly closely since they tend to be long term, usually involve small amounts of billable hours, and rarely lead to trial work (which is this firm’s purpose). However, we still take on a limited number of such clients because we derive a great deal of satisfaction in being able to help small family businesses thrive with these brief time commitments. Trials can take years, while in-house litigation matters often take a few hours to a few weeks.
